Areas of interest

* Trapeza

From the 8A motorway take the road to Kalavryto. After approximately 4 kilometres the road climbs into the hills and orchids can be found in most suitable sites. There is a fair amount of abandoned agriculture and indeed abandoned homes and gardens which can be surprisingly productive. One of the most rewarding sites was  in the grounds of a derelict taverna.
Ophrys delphinensis, Ophrys spruneri, Ophrys herae, Ophrys attica, Ophrys galilaea, Ophrys ferrum-eqinum, Orchis simia, Orchis italica, Himantoglossum robertiana.

Mycenae Archeological Site

This is an area rich in orchids, notably along the wide road verges leading up to the site but also within the grounds themselves. Ophrys argolica, Ophrys galilaea, Ophrys spruneri, Ophrys herae, Himantoglossum robertianum, Orchis italica.

* Kalogria Beach

This is an interesting and unusual area of coastal habitat to the west of Patras which offers great oportunities to both the orchidologist and the ornithologist. At first sight the presence of the somewhat down at heel tourist facilities do not seem encouraging but if one walks on and into the dunes its potential is revealed. The area is a mix of dunes (mostly degraded), scrub, open woodland and marshy wetlands. Kalogria covers a significant acreage and so ensure you give yourself plenty of time.  Ophrys hellenica, Ophrys cornutula, Ophrys phrygia, Ophrys mammosa, Ophrys phryganae, Ophrys reinholdii, Ophrys leochroma, Anacamptis laxiflora,  Anacamptis palustris, Himantoglossum robertianum, Limodorum abortivum, Neotinea maculata, Serapias cordigera, Serapias parviflora, Serapias lingua.

* Lycuria

This is a small town that sits in a mountainous and somewhat bleak region of Arkadia. If you take the Likourias - Feneou road eastwards from the town you will climb through a barren and rocky landscape for a couple of kilometers until the rock strewn terrain is replaced by open woodland. Although orchids may be found the length of the winding road from Lycuria, it is at its best in this wooded area overlooking a vast agricultural valley below.  Ophrys argolica, Ophrys spruneri, Ophrys praemelina, Ophrys attica, Ophrys galiliaea, Ophrys mammosa, Ophrys hebes, Anacamptis papilionacea ssp aegea,  Orchis quadripunctata.

* Dervenakia

Situated on the ancient national highway between Nafplio and Corinth this village lies to the west of a tract of rocky, scrubby hills stretching west to east for about eight kilometers. Access is not especially easy however and best achieved either from a track to the south of Dervenakia or via the road that leads to the Statue of Kolokotronis.
Ophrys cinereophila, Ophrys galiliaea, Ophrys cerastes, Ophrys speculum, Ophrys argolica, Ophrys melena, Orchis italica, Orchis quadripunctata, Neotinea macuata, Anacamptis papilionacea ssp messenica.

* Olympia Archaeological Site

These antiquities are located about 15 kilometers east of Pyrgos and comprise several individual sites covering a large area. Orchids can be found throughout the complex (weedkiller permitting) but particularly in the open woodland and scrub to the north and west of the museum. Ophrys spruneri, Ophrys argolica, Ophrys galiliaea, Ophrys mammosa, Ophrys attica, Orchis simia, Neotinea tridentata.

* Vouraikos Gorge

Although this gorge stretches from the coastline of Korinthiakos Bay, it commences in earnest at the town of Diakopto and runs for around 20 kilometres to Kalavryta. The roads and tracks that meander along the perimeters of the gorge are rich in both flora and fauna and not least orchids.
Ophrys delphinensis, Ophrys spruneri, Ophrys herae, Ophrys attica, Ophrys galilaea, Ophrys delphiensis, Ophrys speculu, Orchis italica, Orchis simia, Orchis quadripunctata, Neotinea macuata, Anacamptis papilionacea ssp aegaea,
